PERFORMANCE (2018)
Performance is a photography series consisting of 25 wet plate collodion self-portraits.
This series of tintypes is an exploration into the wet plate collodion process. The self-portraits have been captured on hand-coated aluminum plates, every single photograph being a unique object which cannot be reproduced. The series explores the possibility of repeating an inherently unrepeatable process, while also taking advantage of the concealing and revealing properties of the wet plate collodion. Performance is informed by research into Walter Benjamin’s criticism of mechanical reproduction and history of photography, particularly women’s portraiture.
